Fuck the Certain Price of Goods (干货计价处 / 乾[幹]貨計價處) = A translation of "Dry Goods Pricing Department" on a sign at supermarket in China. The merger of the traditional character for "dry" (乾) and the character meaning "to do" (幹), also commonly used to denote the vulgarity "fuck," into one single simplified character (干) [dry] likely led to this confusion. [9] The characters comprising the word for "pricing" or "valuation" (计价 / 計價) can be translated separately as "certain" (计 / 計) and "price" (价 / 價).

Top 10 Useless Body Part. #1 is?

Posted on 2008.04.01 at 04:42
10. Plica semilunaris
You may not know it, but you have a third eyelid. Pull open the two more noticeable eyelids and take a look -- it's located right in the corner by the tear duct. This small third eyelid is left over from what's known as a "nictitating membrane," which is still present in full form in some animals including chickens, lizards and sharks.

9. Body hair
No doubt we were once hairier. Up until about 3 million years ago, we were covered with body hair. But by the time Homo erectus arrived, the ability to sweat meant we could shed our woolly ways.

8. Sinuses
Doctors don't really know much about sinuses -- only that we have a lot of them. Possibilities for their function range from insulating our eyes to changing the pitch and tone of our voice.

7. Adenoids
Adenoids trap bacteria, but they're also prone to swelling and infection. Just ask any 7-year-old. Luckily, our adenoids shrink with age and are often removed, along with ...

6. Tonsils
Also prone to swelling and infection. If you still have them when you reach your 30s, it's almost an accomplishment.

5. Coccyx
More useful as a game-winning Scrabble word than as part of the anatomy, the coccyx or tailbone, is made up of several fused vertebrae left over from the olden days when we had tails.

4. Arrector pili
When we were hairier (see No. 9), the arrector pili made the hairs stand on end when we needed to appear bigger and scarier. Now, it just gives us goose bumps.

3. Wisdom teeth
Back in the day, when we ate mammoth meat off the bone and didn't floss afterward, our teeth tended to fall out. Therefore, when those reserve molars, aka "wisdom teeth," came in, they were welcomed. Nowadays, fluoride and dental plans have made them just a huge pain.

2. Appendix
Darwin claimed the appendix was useful for digestion during our early plant-eating years; it's dwindled down to little since we started eating more digestible foods.

1. Male nipples

Update

Current Mood: depressed
Current Music: Hung my Head- Johnny Cash
Hey friends. I haven't updated my livejournal in a coons age. So it is almost a year working in Detroit at Henry Ford Hospital. It has been stressful working in the cardiac icu. People dying left and right is not fun. I am still nervous sometime going to work. With someone's live in your hand you don't really want them to crook. I have had to shock couple of my patients so far none of my patients have died on my shift. I will not allow it, too much paper work. They can crash but they will not burn. I will keep them pumping with vasopressors.

Valentines day was crazy. I worked during the day and it was fine but throughout the night 5 passed. It was the most in one day for our unit. I come back the next morning and there were more empty beds then when I left the night before. Now I am working night shift it is more calm. I can actually listen to some music on my ipod while working, of course I only use one head phone in my non dominate ear. So when someone is going into V-tach I will hear the alarms.

Today I have been productive trying to get my investments on track. I started 403b plan and also a stock trade online. I will invest 1grand into something not yet know, I am still researching. Telecommunication is a big sector along with biochem/pharma and semiconductors. I can't wait to do some live trading. I am going to start small investing in smaller priced share and try some higher shares. I also started a long term investment through mutual funds.

I also finished my taxes. I am not happy paying the state of Michigan 200 some dollars. I got some money back from the feds hopefully more if W. Bush tax cut is true. So in May I took 3 days vacation time off. But how I scheduled my work I don't have to work for 2 weeks. Basically I worked the scheduling system. You normally have to work 3 days a week, So I scheduled 3 in a row the first week, Sun, Mon Tues. The second week I took my vacation time 3 days. the third week I scheduled myself to work the end of the week Thurs, Fri, Sat. Therefore ending up with almost 2 weeks not having to work. They probably will call me in to work like they always do, but I will decline.

I can't wait for the madness in March. People are insane day walkers. I now hate the light working on the midnight shift since beginning of March. GO STATE.

Holy crap, I was so worried. My garbage disposal was draining really slow and I thought I had to call the complex to come fix it and maybe charge us for a whole new one. Good thing I looked online to find out some ideas to unclog it and it worked. Thank God for the internet. Peace

Paramount set to drop HD-DVD

Paramount set to drop HD-DVD

By Matthew Garrahan and Mariko Sanchanta in Las Vegas

Published: January 8 2008 02:49 | Last updated: January 8 2008 02:49

Paramount is poised to drop its support of HD-DVD after Warner Brothers backed Sony's Blu-ray technology.

The move could sound the death knell of HD-DVD and bring the home entertainment format war to a definitive end.

Paramount and DreamWorks Animation, which makes the Shrek films, came out in support of HD-DVD last summer, joining General Electric's Universal Studios as the main backers of the Toshiba format.

However, Paramount, which is owned by Viacom, is understood to have a clause in its contract with the HD-DVD camp that would allow it to switch sides in the event of Warner backing Blu-ray, according to people familiar with the situation.

Paramount is poised to have a bumper 2008 with several likely blockbusters, including the latest instalment in the Indiana Jones franchise, due for release.

Paramount joining the Blu-ray camp would leave HD-DVD likely to suffer the same fate as Sony's now obsolete Betamax video technology, which lost out to VHS in a similar format war in the 1980s.

Warner's decision last week to throw its weight behind Blu-ray saw it join Walt Disney, 20th Century Fox and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as backers of the Sony format.

The Warner move gives Blu-ray about 70 per cent of Hollywood's output, although the format's grip on film content will increase further when Paramount comes aboard.

It is unclear whether DreamWorks Animation has the same get-out clause in its contract with the HD-DVD camp. However, Paramount and DreamWorks have a close relationship, with Paramount distributing DreamWorks Animation films.

The two companies also signed their HD-DVD contracts at the same time.

Universal declined to comment on its next-generation DVD plans following the Warner move.

Sir Howard Stringer, chief executive of Sony, on Monday held out an olive branch to its rival in the next-generation DVD format wars following Warner's decision to back Blu-ray.

Sir Howard said the company would be "open to dialogue" with the rival high-definition HD-DVD camp to "grow the market". The move came as new figures showed that Blu-ray had opened up a decisive lead over the rival home entertainment format.

Sir Howard said: "We are not going to push people around. We'll talk to anyone . . . we have a lot of work to do to grow the market. We'll be systematic and open to dialogue at all times."

He added that Sony still had "a lot of work" to do to get Blu-ray "widely accepted" among American consumers.

"With Warner's support you saw billboards going up in different places and you saw television commercials getting more and more sophisticated and that's what we'll continue doing," said Sir Howard.

Sony would this year focus on "getting customers excited about the product, because many customers have been sitting on their hands over the Christmas period".

Stan Glasgow, president and chief operating officer of Sony Electronics in the US, said the percentage of households with high-definition TVs in the US was 40 per cent at the end of 2007. This figure is expected to rise to 55 per cent by the end of 2008.
